What is residential real estate?
Residential real estate services are by far the most commonly used services in real estate. Residential real estate refers to a specific category of real estate that designates areas zoned for people to live on. The others being commercial, land, industrial and special use. Since this is what people utilize when they are either buying a home or selling a home, these services are what you are likely to need. With most individuals selling their homes and moving every 5-7 years, residential real estate is always in demand. Much like a good realtor is! Let's get familiar with the services that support these hefty transactions so you can feel more comfortable when approaching the idea of selling your home and finding the real estate agent and accompanying services to make it all a success!
Why it matters.
Depending on your specific needs, you will need the assistance of a Buyers Agent and/or a Sellers Agent (Listing Agent). In many cases, one person fills both roles but sometimes you'll have someone who specializes in one or the other. This is more of an organizational choice to have a division of labor if the agent you are dealing with is part of a larger group. The quality of work isn't necessarily related to this organizational choice, but I felt it important to mention since you are likely to see this when looking for services. Whether or not you choose a one person show or a team, you can get great results either way. Be sure to interview your agent and have a conversation around what and how they do. For more reference on that topic, see our related article on "How To Choose An Agent." Keep in mind that when you choose an agent, you also are choosing their resources.
How it works for you.
Residential real estate is hyper local. What this means is that the performance you are asking about and wanting to get a specific picture about really depends on the details. In order to get down and dirty with the details, you are best served by having an experienced agent field all those details for you. Try not to get too caught up in generalized news and social media news feeds. Most of what you see there are articles based on national averages which may have absolutely nothing to do with your home or the particular area you are interested in making a purchase. It's all in the details, so develop a relationship with a good Real Estate agent. Anyone in business understands the power of having great business relationships with other professionals who offer important services. Your need for a real estate agent is no different. Take a swim in the details. It's where real results come from!
What's actually important.
As an example, part of our footprint serves the city of Puyallup. Some of the popular real estate and home communities in our area include the developments of Gem Heights, Sunrise, Crystal Ridge, Deer Creek, Emma Estates , English Ridge, Willow Gardens, Highlands, Manorwood, Puyallup Valley, Rodesco, South Hill, and Summit. Each one of these neighborhoods are unique and so are each individual home. Until you have an agent parse down the details, you'll only get a very generalized idea of what to expect. In other words, you won't be able to develop a strong game plan until you have more precise information. Again, you'll need to take a swim in the details. You'll want to learn about schools , local resources , public transit , shopping , parks , crime statistics , future road and development projects , and your own personal needs! There's a lot to consider, so get started!
